Q&A with our Intern Lesego Mtsolongo

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Lesego Mtsolongo. I am 21 years old and I am currently a Fashion Intern for COSMOPOLITAN and Good Housekeeping magazines. I moved to Cape Town in 2015 to study at the University of Cape Town. Last year I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Media.

In February 2018, I was appointed as a Fashion Intern at Associated Media Publishing. It is an opportunity of a lifetime and one that I am very thankful for. I feel so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to learn about the industry through my internship program. So far, I have assisted on amazing photoshoots and helped with the styling and sourcing of clothes. I was also lucky enough to feature in two fashion shoots.

What have you learnt so far?

Fashion Director, Bev Nates, and Fashion Editor, Cleo Marcopoulos, have been the best mentors and it has been an honour to step into their world and see what they do every day.

This internship has showed me that this is the career path I should pursue. I now have first-hand knowledge of what type of person it takes to make a success in the publishing industry – hardworking and strong-willed.

What is the best part of the internship?

This internship has inspired me to further my studies in fashion. I would love to go to The Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design in London to complete a fashion course. The skills I’ve acquired since being here will forever be the building blocks to my future career and the special memories I’ve made with the people I’ve encountered here will always be close to my heart.

To all at AMP and EOH and everyone else who has been involved in my journey, I am forever grateful to have been awarded this opportunity. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year has to offer. This is only the beginning of my story.
