AMP Cares visits Sisters Incorporated
On Friday, 31 August 2018, AMP employees visited the women from Sisters Incorporated to spend time with the women and children under their care. AMP didn’t arrive empty-handed – every women and child received a gift bag full of age-appropriate treats including educational supplies, toys, arts and crafts supplies, reading material and toiletries.
Sisters Incorporated (SI) is a Cape Town based center for the care of survivors of abuse. SI offers a hand-up instead of a hand-out to every woman, teenager and child in crisis to help them heal physically, emotionally and spiritually.
SI offers accommodation, counseling and assistance from a full-time social worker, child-care facilities from a full-time child-care worker, assistance in placing older children in local schools as well as a skills training center where women can learn valuable skills to start a new life.
Activities offered by SI to local women and children in need include AIDS awareness classes, relaxation, spiritual upliftment, work preparedness, and birth preparation. They will even provide a birth partner for women who don’t have someone to support them during birth.
If you also want to help, you can donate a few things they desperately need like appliances, art and craft supplies, clothing and shoes, crockery, cutlery and dining utensils, food, stationery, toiletries and toys. For a full list of what they need, visit the website here.
You can also volunteer your time and lending a helping hand like the staff of AMP did, or offer donations and financial assistance.
