AMP Cares Sponsors 30 boxes for Santa Shoebox Project 2018
In October 2018, Associated Media employees pledged, packed and decorated 30 boxes for teenage girls from disadvantaged communities in South Africa and Namibia.
Each box included all the necessities for a Santa Shoebox: toothpaste, toothbrush, bar of soap, washcloth, an outfit of clothing, educational supplies, sweets and a toy.
Why teenage girls? AMP Cares pledged for 30 teenage girls because AMP is dedicated to supporting young women – and all women – and the Santa Shoebox Project is the perfect opportunity to make a big difference in many women’s lives.
“We wanted to pack a little extra love into each box for these special teenage girls, so we included COSMO manicure kits, deodorant spray and roll-on, perfume samples, hair brushes, lipsticks, small cosmetic bags, magazines and face cream,” says Marilize Nel, the CSR chairman.
The work was divided amongst employees – some shopped for pretty outfits, some bought all the necessities, and some organized all the extras, and everyone at AMP helped to decorate the boxes to make them beautiful.
What is the Santa Shoebox Project?
Each year the Santa Shoebox Project collects and distributes gifts for underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia. In 13 years, this project has reached 858 673 children.
The Santa Shoebox Project originated in Cape Town in 2006 with a humble 180 shoeboxes. In 13 years it has grown in leaps and bounds, with the number of Santa Shoeboxes donated reaching a total of 858 673. The shoeboxes are distributed to more than 1000 recipient facilities each year, through more than 60 satellites around South Africa and Namibia.
Associated Media Publishing hopes to pledge even more boxes in 2019 to make this year’s festive season a joyful time for all children.
